The Pizza Joint
With locations in downtown Augusta, Evans, and Aiken, The Pizza Joint is one of the most popular pizza places in the CSRA and a local favorite. These locally-owned restaurants make their food fresh everyday to order. Their website boasts that they hand slice their vegetables, make their dough from scratch every day, and mix their pizza sauce and marinara daily too.
Guests have been flocking to The Pizza Joint since it opened in 1996 for both the delicious pizza and fun, casual atmosphere. Some of the most popular pizzas are “The Big One†with beef, pepperoni, green peppers, black olives, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes; “The Tree Hugger†topped with 7 different kinds of veggies; and the white pizza with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses and a garlic & herb base.
The Pizza Joint also offers a “build your own†option for pizza, as well as Detroit-style pizza, stromboli, calzones, sandwiches, salads, and savory appetizers including garlic knots, cheesy bread, and bruschetta. View the full menu here.
Mellow Mushroom is another favorite for handcrafted pizza. This regional chain of restaurants prides itself on making hand-tossed, stone-baked classic southern pizza. One of the most fun parts of eating here is watching the chefs throw the pizza dough!
The pies that stand out on Mellow Mushroom’s menu are their “House Special†with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, bacon, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and extra mozzarella cheese; and the “Holy Shiitake Pie†with olive oil and garlic base, three different kinds of mushrooms, caramelized onions, and mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
